Ideal Answer for a Special Problem
I needed to attach an optical cable to the back of my wall-mounted television. The problem: the back of the television is very close to a wall, and the port is oriented such that the optical cable has to come out perpendicular to the wall. This forces a fairly sharp turn in the cable as soon as it exits the television. The first cable I tried stopped working, having been damaged by the sharp turn. The answer: this tiny and inexpensive right angle adapter plugs into the television optical port and allows my optical cable to exit parallel to the rear of the television and the wall. I still need a sharp turn, but now the turn occurs in the design of the adapter, not in my cable. The plug part of the adapter can rotate 360 degrees letting it conform to the orientation of the optical port on the television while still allowing the attached cable to feed out to the left, right, up, or down (or anywhere in between) as needed. I used it at the television, but it could just as well be used at the other end of the optical cable, e.g., at a soundbar or audio receiver, if needed.Problem solved! This adapter worked like a charm!

Flaky, just get a whole cable
Tried this to plug into my Echo Studio with an Optical cable I had. I had to wiggle it in the Echo and it would make sound briefly but I couldn't get it to be stable. Afterwards I bought a cable with a mini end and it worked flawlessly. Don't waste your time and money on an adapter, the optical light is too sensitive.

It swivels!!!
I grabbed this as an extension for my computer; the angle of the connection caused my last cable to fail, albeit it was pretty old.I purchased it before I even thought about the angle, or whether it would face up, right, left, or down. It arrived, I looked at the PC, and realized I should've checked. I then plugged it in, and it was the wrong angle. It kept spinning, so I thought my port was broken.Pulled it out to inspect, and realized that it was able to adjust the angle. It's great, and I haven't noticed any degradation in my audio quality.
