Platinum Collection

Just a passing thought
I have always loved 'The Platinum Collection', it's so well put together showcasing Bowie's unique talent & artistry capturing perfectly his body of work over the period of 1969-87 with all the obvious classic stuff, plus with some lesser well known and interesting gems thrown in. Needless to say this three disc set is stacked full of gems. Anyway, got to thinking what with the recent remastering done for New Order's 'Substance '87', wouldn't it be great to have a fresh new remastering done for this? I think it deserves one. Disc 1 & Disc 2 (his 70s period) in particular need it because they only have a 1997 & 98 remaster on them.

Please ignore the bad reviews!!
First could I point out to all that Ralph Owens who gave this 1 star, seems to have confused a review with his personal opinion of David Bowie. Love him or hate him, this box set is still a 5-star collection and well put together, plus great value too! Why would you buy Bowie's greatest hits if you hate his music? Clearly Mr Owens is a bit special.Second, Robbo who gave it 2 stars, seems to think this is a live album. It's quite obviously not, Robbo is clearly a bit special. This collection is excellent, especially if you like Bowie and have none of his albums. Five special stars.

A comprehensive Singles Collection from the Great Man!
I already had The Singles Double CD Collection, released in 93. A great compilation however it didn’t include a couple of my favourite Bowie tunes such as Up The Hill Backwards, Cat People (Putting Out Fire) and Loving The Alien. This collection is a beautifully packaged, 3 disc collection which includes these tunes, all the tracks from The Singles Collection and B sides. A more comprehensive Singles Collection from the Great Man!

Great collection
I've been wanting to get into David Bowie for years. The constant re-releases, remasters and box-sets have always kept the prices up on his albums. So, I never personally bothered and always looked else where. But now with the 1999 remasters being so cheap, I thought I'd finally bite the bullet. I bought this triple disc collection to determine which era of David Bowie I enjoyed the most.I personally acquired this album on the marketplace for barely a fiver. It's made of three discs, all of which cover a different period. The first album is the glam stuff, you know the one. That Ziggy guy and those spider things. The second disc covers the post glam era, mainly soul and funk influenced music. The third disc is Bowie in full pretentious cheesy 80s mode.My favourite of the three discs is by far the first. The early 70s rock really agrees with me and this is a really fantastic disc. It has all the big songs another person could want and it sounds really good. I enjoyed the second disc. It is a fair change in style but it's also got some cracking tunes. I wouldn't say it was as fun but it's still definitely a good collection. The third disc is where it gets a bit iffy with me. I really enjoyed the songs from Scary Monsters but a lot of really cheesy 80s stuff does nothing for me. I really don't want to hear Let's Dance ever again. I've grown up hearing that song and I still hate it.I can see people like me getting a lot of value from this collection but I can't imagine it'd be of any worth to actual David Bowie fans, as I'd assume they own the actual albums already. That is unless they want all the single edits that are on the third disc. With that said, I got a great compilation for a fiver and it's got more than enough to do me. I got what I wanted out of the album and now I own a big chunk of the guy's back catalogue.

David Bowie is not cool
I have never been a big fan but have liked some of his singles. I saw this album on ofer and decided what the hell it's pretty cheap. My life has been full of bad decisions and buying this album was definitely not one of them! I cannot believe that I only thought of him as a "so so" artiste. On my MP3 player nearly all the tracks have so much depth and are so enjoyable. Why did I waste so much time not appreciating his music before? This will remain a mystery to me,but hey I can always listen to these tacks now.If in doubt buy............ I said buy, you will not regret it

Excellent 3 Disc Compilation of Bowie's Hits
Excellent value 3 Disc compilation covering most of Bowie's Hits with the majority being original compositions. Plus some cover and Live versions. and collaborations with other artists.,"Disc 1" covers 1969-1974. "Disc 2" covers 1974-1979. "Disc 3" covers 1980-1987.,As with many of these "Compilation Sets". The Record company has decided to save money by not including any "Background information" other than the "Date of Track publication" .Otherwise an excellent Set for anyone interested in Bowie.

the definitive Bowie
All the greats are on here,, a superb album, I can`t stop playing it at home and in the car. Sound quality varies a little, some of the tracks sound a bit "digitised" which I suppose they are, but its quite pronounced. I never realised before that there are some great bass lines in some Bowie tunes, as a bass player myself. Buy this album, its a lot of music for your money !

Does what it says on the sleeve
Hi I had a few Bowie ablums on vinyl but wasn't one of his greatest fans. I saw this CD on Amazon and the price and track listing both inspired me to order this product. I forgot how many good tracks he produced. To those like myself who liked Bowie but were not obessive fans, it's a great collection, dedicated fans may differ in their opinions as to what tracks should or not have been included.
